MBABANE – She was a nurse by profession but played a major role in the development of women in the country.

This is none other than the late Indvuna yeLutsango Aylline Dlamini, nee Hlophe, who passed away on Thursday peacefully in her sleep according to family members.

Her daughter, Nomvula Dlamini confirmed the passing of their mother who died at the age of 90.
Dlamini said her mother started working at the Mbabane Government Hospital as a nurse and later joined the Public Health Unit where she worked as a matron. She then joined the Ministry of Health Headquarters as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer until retirement. After retirement, the late indvuna worked for Africa Cooperative Action Trust (ACAT) Lilima Swaziland as a director.

She was once elected as a Board member of the National Emergency Response Council on HIV/AIDS (NERCHA) and received numerous King’s Order medals.
Dlamini said the late Aylline was survived by her children; two boys and two girls, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lutsango member Bella Katamzi said the country had lost a valuable member of society, especially at a time when the country was gearing up for the national elections.

According to Katamzi, Dlamini would have made a meaningful contribution in ensuring that women were taking the political agenda more seriously. She said in general, women did not seem to embrace each other and did not nominate or vote for one another.
Katamzi said as professionals themselves, they learnt a lot from the late Dlamini on what it meant to be a woman in Swaziland and taking part in the socio-economic and political development of women.
