MBABANE – The celebration of mixed cultures will now bring sad memories for a Swazi family of Lobamba as their Canadian makoti has filed for divorce.

The woman is accusing her husband of having committed adultery with another woman who is a volunteer. In her particulars of claim, the woman stated that the High Court had jurisdiction to hear the matter by virtue of the fact that their marriage was celebrated in Swaziland. She informed the court that on or about May 3, 2014, the parties got married to each other by civil rites, in community of property.

She pointed out that the marriage still subsists and there was no child born out of matrimony. She claimed that her husband told her that he had an 11- year-old child, who was currently residing with his family at Mvutjini.

She further mentioned that during the subsistence of their marriage, the parties established their marital home and lived together as husband and wife in Ezulwini.  In the particulars of claim, the Canadian succinctly stated that she no longer wished to continue with the marriage because of her husband’s alleged unbecoming behaviour.

She disclosed that on or about September 2016, with the intention of not returning to her matrimonial home with her husband, she left the common home.
“The desertion by the plaintiff of defendant was constructive due to the defendant’s unbecoming behaviour,” reads part of her particulars of claim.
