MBABANE – Prior to the death of Mduduzi ‘Schaza’ Matsebula, murder suspect Lucky Matsenjwa is alleged to have been telling people that he wanted to eliminate all the witnesses, especially the police officers.

These submissions were made by Mbabane Desk Officer Assistant Superintendent Solomon Mavuso when opposing Matsenjwa’s application for bail.
Matsebula was the key witness in the fingerprints clearance case where Matsenjwa is also one of the accused.
“May I state that if he disputes that he could not have killed Matsebula just to prevent him from testifying only on three counts, he must come out clearly why then did he kill Matsebula,” contended the ace detective.

Mavuso informed the court that there was enough evidence implicating Matsenjwa in the commission of all the offences and he had no bona fide defence.
He alleged that Matsenjwa was at Solani’s in Mbabane at the time Matsebula was called from his house by a certain person on the accused person’s instructions.
According to Mavuso, this person is now a witness in the murder case against Matsenjwa.
The senior law enforcer continued to state that evidence showed that Matsenjwa had been requesting the witness to make some arrangements that he meets Matsebula.
Matsenjwa, according to Mavuso, disclosed the purpose of such meeting to the witness.

“There is evidence also that the accused told the witness that the reason he wanted to meet S’chaza was that he (S’chaza) was a witness in the case where he (Matsenjwa) is an accused person,” argued Mavuso.
Assistant Superintendent Mavuso went on to tell the court that there was also evidence which revealed that Matsenjwa was the one who organised a car to collect Matsebula from the gate, where he was waiting to be taken by a taxi since Matsebula told the witness that he had no form of transport to go to Solani’s.
Matsenjwa and the witness were allegedly calling Matsebula through cellphones under the pretence that they wanted to buy him alcohol.

Mavuso said he could not deny that before Matsenjwa was arrested they were friends with Matsebula. He, however, told the court that their friendship deteriorated after Matsenjwa’s arrest (in the fingerprints case) and this resulted in the death of Matsebula.
