LUYENGO – The reason the administration block of UNISWA, Luyengo Campus, still exists today is because of the quick intervention of the police.

Otherwise, if it was not for that, it could be only the walls that were left as a group of aggrieved students from the campus went on a rampage on Tuesday evening and wanted to set the administration block on fire.

Nevertheless, the students ended up breaking about 12 windows and office equipment at the administration block, valued at E10 300.
According the students interpretations, they feel that their administration does not exist because it was allegedly failing to address their issues.

The riot emanates from the allegations levelled against a lecturer for AS 304 course. The students alleged that the lecturer ill-treated and victimised them and they registered their grievance with the institution’s administration and further asked that the educator be removed from the institution.

A source within the facility said affected students, about 70, had a caucus on Tuesday afternoon and it attracted the attention of other students who joined them. He said as the number of students in the caucus increased, the administration became suspicious that something was about to go down and they called the police.

In the meantime, the students had resolved to do something that would force the administration to give their issues the urgency they feel they deserve. The resolution was to vandalise the administration block in any way they could with what they had, including setting it alight.
