MANZINI – Four army recruits, including a chief and three full-figured females, have resigned from the ongoing USDF training.

The chief is said to have left the Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) Mbuluzi Infantry School on Friday fuming, after he was slapped by an instructor, who was correcting him while they were at the assembly square.

An impeccable source said the recruits were ordered to gather at the assembly square and the chief mistakenly did something wrong.
“An instructor who spotted his mistake slapped him on the back while shouting at him to do what he was taught to do, when they were lining up at the assembly square.”

The source said the slapping on the back was a normal practice used by the military instructors when correcting the recruits during training.
However, it did not go down well with the chief as he said; “Angeke ngikhone kushaywa yindvondza ngingabuyiseli,” meaning ‘I cannot be slapped by a man and not retaliate’.

The source said the chief said these words while leaving the assembly square towards the tents where they live.
He said other instructors tried to stop him from leaving the assembly square by persuading him to take it easy and join the other aspiring soldiers, but he refused and repeated the statement that he could not be hit by another man and be expected not to fight back.

Senior army officers were immediately notified about the incident and they intervened by trying to talk sense to the fuming chief, but all in vain as he strode towards the tents.
