MBABANE – Can laughter be a possible cause of death? This is a question family members of a 36-year-old businessman are asking themselves after his death.
In an interview with businessman Nduku Dlamini’s aunt, Elizabeth Maseko, she said the family was still shocked about the sudden death of their son.

Maseko said according to Dlamini’s pregnant wife who was also present during the interview, she last saw her husband at Mbabane Clinic, her workplace, where he had come to leave her a motor vehicle so she could drive home after work.
She said her husband had decided to leave the motor vehicle because he had an appointment with his client who was supposed to pay him at the Happy Valley Hotel. She said while on his way to the hotel Dlamini of Somjalose, in Ezulwini, saw some people who had attended a wedding ceremony at the Greyhound Hall.

“He made some comments about the people who enter into marriage and divorce after a short period of time. As he was sharing his jokes and laughing with the driver, he lost strength and started coughing. When the driver paid attention to him, he took deep breaths twice before he stopped breathing,” said Maseko.

She said the driver called paramedics who swiftly came to the scene. She said it was too late to save his life as they confirmed him dead upon arrival.
“This happened in five minutes,” added Maseko. Asked if Dlamini had any sickness, Maseko responded to the negative, stating that her son was never diagnosed with any sickness.
She said more than anything doctors never told them anything regarding Dlamini’s death.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the death of Dlamini. Mamba said the police were investigating the matter despite the fact that there was nothing strange at the scene. He said the police who attended to the scene came with a report that Dlamini died shortly after commenting about the wedding that was taking place while passing the Greyhound Hall in Ezulwini.
Meanwhile, information sourced from the internet confirms a person can die from laughter.

Yes, it’s possible to literally die from laughter, however, not from the joke itself but from the body’s reaction to it. Among the many possible medical ways that laughing too hard can kill you – rupture brain aneurysm, cardiac arrest, collapsed lung, strangulated hernia, galactic seizures, stroke and asphyxiation.
