MBABANE – SEC has dismissed four of its supervisors stationed in the different regions of the country for various acts of misconduct and negligence.

SEC is the Swaziland Electricity Company. One of the fired supervisors is Thabiso Simelane, who is an engineer. He was dismissed for gross negligence, which resulted in the death of an employee of Mormond Electrical at Mbelebeleni.

The electrical company was contracted to SEC when the incident happened. It is alleged that on October 25, 2016, around Mbelebeleni, Simelane changed the scope of work to be done on the network and did not communicate this to all stakeholders involved.

As a result, this caused the death of a contractor employee. According to SEC, Simelane’s act further brought the company’s name into total disrepute.

He was entrusted with the responsibility of switching a permit on the day, which was solely directed to him but he is alleged to have instead left the site. The other employees who have been dismissed are: Mbongiseni Dlamini, Gcina Maseko and Simon Dlamini.
Simon, an electrician who was based at Madlangimpisi, was dismissed for alleged dishonesty, defrauding a member of the public as an SEC employee, unauthorised use of company vehicle and concealing evidence.

In the count of dishonesty, it is alleged that around August 26, 2016, he requested and accepted payment from one Sikhumbuzo Dlamini (customer) who had vandalised SEC infrastructure.

According to the charge sheet against Simon, Sikhumbuzo reported an incident where he had damaged SEC infrastructure in good faith.
