NHLANGANO – A couple was arrested after police allegedly found dagga amounting to over E200 000 in the car they were travelling in.

The man and the woman aged 36 and 22 respectively, were busted in Nhlangano town on Saturday after police received a tip-off.
Information gathered was that when the duo was stopped by the police around the town centre at around 8am, they simply parked the car, an Opel Corsa with a foreign registration, and then fled the scene.

After conducting a search inside the car, police discovered several dagga bags weighing a total of 262.7kg.
Police said the confiscated dagga had an estimated street value of E209 816. The car was then seized and kept at the Nhlangano Police Station.

Reports are that the duo of Nomfundo Dlamini and Sifiso Khumalo eventually got arrested when they later emerged at the police station to claim the vehicle. The pair was briefly questioned by investigators before they were subsequently charged for possession of the illicit drug.

They made a brief appearance at the Nhlangano Magistrates Court yesterday morning, where their charges were read.
During their court appearance, they were not asked to plead. Instead, the Crown proposed that they be kept at a correctional services facility until next Monday for the continuation of their matter.

The application by the Crown was granted by the court and the pair is expected back in the same court on Monday.
