PUBLIC GRATEFUL FOR ‘BLESSING’ AS BEER TRUCK OVERTURNS

MBABANE – In a rather chaotic scenario, members of the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) service and paramedics could not help themselves but be seen carrying packs of beer spilt from a truck that overturned at Malagwane Hill yesterday.

The truck, with local registration numbers, was driving down the notorious hill when the driver lost control just before Eden Guest House.
Fully loaded with crates of Castle Lite beer and a few Black Label beer, it failed to negotiate the Malagwane corner and eventually overturned.

Hundreds of people crammed the accident scene and helped themselves to the free beer.
Some were spotted alighting from buses and kombis, which were caught in traffic. The intension was to collect as many beers as they could.
Motorists had a difficult time trying to negotiate space to pass through as there was a traffic congestion.

A notable number of people would stop their cars next to the accident scene and would also start collecting as much beer as they could.
People from surrounding areas such as Baha’i, Mountain View and Mangwaneni came with different containers to load the beer.
Some police found at the scene just watched as people helped themselves to the beer, while others tried to control traffic.

Some of the officers were spotted picking up packs and taking some from those who had helped themselves at the scene. This resulted in some people accusing them of taking the beer with the intention of keeping it for themselves.
The public argued that the beer was insured and the owner would claim for the loss.
Some paramedics who had arrived at the scene were spotted secretly smuggling some of Castle Lite six-pack bottles.

This raised outrage among other members of the public as they alleged that paramedics were not supposed to take the beer but had to attend to casualties.
A police officer found at the scene was asked if it was legal for the police and paramedics to take the beer spilled at the crime scene.
