MBABANE – The Royal Swaziland Police and Interpol are now hot on the heels of one of the members of the stokvel whose E500 000 was stolen at Nkoyoyo.

This after further investigations revealed that Nompumelelo Titi Sithungo allegedly masterminded the robbery which resulted in the theft of the money.
Nompumelelo is reported to have fled to Canada where she is currently residing.
The homestead where the money was stolen on December 18, 2010 belonged to a senior police officer identified as Siphanga.

Nomphumelelo was primarily a witness in the matter but further investigations by the police revealed that she allegedly played a crucial role in the theft by providing information to the two men who were subsequently arrested and charged.
Crown Counsel Sandile Mdluli yesterday informed the court that after further police investigation, the Crown deemed it fit to charge Sithungo.
Mdluli asked for the postponement of the matter as the local police and Interpol were still searching for the exact whereabouts of Sithungo in Canada.

“My Lord, Nomphumelelo is reported to be in Canada and means to locate her have been made but she could not be found,” submitted Mdluli. In her statement she recorded with the police before she fled the country to Canada, Nomphumelelo stated that she was also part of the stokvel and seemingly confirmed her involvement in the robbery.

She alleged that she was asked by a certain Sithungo man when their association (stokvel) was meeting. Nomphumelelo mentioned that she volunteered the dates when they would be meeting.
According to Nomphumelelo, it was after two days that the Sithungo man told her that he wanted to rob the association of their money.

She claimed that she turned down the idea but the man (Sithungo) was persistent and he further told her that she would not be personally  involved as he would find people to commit the robbery.
In her statement, she further mentioned that on December 3, 2010, she agreed to the plan after persuasion from Sithungo.

She narrated that on December 11, 2010 there was food distribution among women at Siphanga’s homestead.  She pointed out that she did not go for the food distribution but Sithungo went on her behalf.
