MBABANE – “We refuse to be intimidated.”
This is the bold statement issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) following the leaking and subsequent publishing of a letter purportedly written by some of their investigators.

In fact, faceless people have been accused of attempting to undermine and discredit the work of the ACC.
This was alleged by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Jabu Phakathi, during a press conference yesterday morning.
“We have, over the years, grown accustomed to similar attacks as we are aware of serious systemic clandestine manoeuvres from some quarters to try and discredit and undermine our work,” she said.

She alleged that the grand plan for those schemers who are conniving and plotting under the cover of darkness and behind closed doors is to ultimately capture the ACC with a view to render the institution ineffective.

Addressing members of the media in a wide ranging interview, Phakathi said the commission had been debating within itself whether to dignify with a response some media reports published over time in general and the recent reports in particular, that are said to have been sourced from a statement purported to have been authored by four ACC investigators.

The statement according to a story published in various media houses, alleged that there was division within the institution and that some officers allegedly arrested high profile suspects without compelling evidence.   Phakathi said they had considered ignoring them, as an option, as they were a distraction to the-all-important work that they did.
“We stand firm in our unwavering commitment to render the service to the nation in spite of these challenges. We refuse to be intimidated,” she said.
She said they were acutely aware that by the ACC’s mere existence and the diligent execution of their work, they were challenging the status quo and bringing a lot of discomfort and anxiety to many people who have ensconced themselves deep in the nests of corruption and whose lifestyles and habits are surreptitiously sustained by the public purse.
