LUDZELUDZE – An aspirant soldier escaped from soldiers’ custody in full view of about 20 military men and 400 community members.

This was after he had been caught cheating with three others during the ongoing recruitment exercise at Ludzeludze Inkhundla yesterday morning, where about 150 people joined the race for two army jobs.

The army instructors marked those who came to try their luck with a marking pen on their hands. However, some of the marked aspiring soldiers were seen leaving and the instructors closed the gate and those who were inside were marked for the second time before the 3.2km run started. Again, at the finish line, the aspiring soldiers were given a card as proof that they had finished in the top 15, since only the first 15 males and same number of females will continue to do the other exercises.

After being marked, the quartet is said to have started the 3.2km run and joined the rest of the aspiring soldiers along the way to the finish line where they were also given the cards.

However, when they came back with the other winners, the instructors discovered that they had only one mark instead of two marks on their hands and they were punished before being disqualified.

As punishment, they did push-ups, posed like a urinating dog, sat on an ‘invisible chair’ while holding their ears and made to pose like were doing push-ups with their fists placed on bricks.
However, as the instructor who was punishing them went around the Inkhundla centre looking for pieces of bricks for one of the cheating aspiring soldiers, the cheater took advantage and bolted.
