MANZINI – Swazi Spa Holdings has been rocked by a procurement scandal, which has led to the company allegedly losing a sum of almost E300 000.

This has resulted in the resort, which is made up of Royal Swazi Spa and Lugogo Sun Hotel, in Ezulwini dismissing two of its top ranking employees; Vusumuzi Ngubeni, who was employed as the Resort Executive Chef and Derick Mncina who was employed as the company’s Procurement Manager.
Ngubeni and Mncina were responsible for the procurement of stock and produce for use in the Swazi Spa Holdings kitchen.

According to the resort’s Human Resources (HR) Manager, Motselisi Ntsoelikane, early last year, the company discovered that the pair allegedly procured vegetables and other perishable stock from a company called Mr Veggies and that the vegetables were allegedly being purchased at grossly inflated prices.

The prices, according to Ntsoelikane, were well above that which could be obtained from other suppliers.
“Further investigations by the resort revealed that Ngubeni and his wife were cultivating vegetables at their home in Mpolonjeni, supplying Mr Veggies, who would in turn supply Swazi Spa Holdings at inflated prices.

“Mncina was doing the same save that he was supplying the company with pork at prices well above the normal and usual rate,” she alleged.
Ntsoelikane alleged that Mncina and Ngubeni were running side businesses and supplying the applicant without disclosing this to management and in contravention of their contracts of employment.

The company policy stipulates that the resort’s employees shall not engage in any other business without the express consent of the company.
