WOMAN, CHILDREN EXCHANGE BLOWS WITH IN-LAWS

DLANGENI – It is often said that a woman should be respectful and accommodative of her in-laws at all times but at times a person could be pushed to a certain limit.

This was witnessed in what could be described as a rare incident when a daughter-in-law put respect aside and matched her in-laws blow for blow with the support of her three children.
The 43-year-old woman, despite being punched and kicked, refused to simply take the beating as she fought back, demanding equal respect.

The exchange of fisticuffs emanated from allegations that the woman, *Sarah, was practising witchcraft.
Rubbing salt into the wound for Sarah was that the allegations came from the very family she had married into.   

   
With injuries to the body and suspected internal ones, Sarah, in a brief interview, confirmed that she had been verbally abused by her in-laws after she was labelled a witch, something she denies and did not take kindly to.
She declined to go into merits of what exactly transpired as she said the matter was yet to be deliberated by the local chiefdom.

 While Sarah was reluctant to shed light on the confrontation, leading to exchange of blows with her in-laws, her family is incensed and is demanding justice.
“Bamcaphatile batsi bamnuka kutsi uyatsakatsa,” said one of her relatives, who asked that her identity be withheld pending a meeting between the two families.

The relative was, however, adamant that the allegation had been peddled by Sarah’s in-laws.
“I have been to her in-law’s homestead over the same matter. I warned them that the attack on Sarah was a serious matter and had to be reported to the police. However, they told me that they preferred discussing it locally.”

Insulting

According to her, she does not understand what is there to talk about when a person comes to your homestead and starts insulting and accusing you of things you know nothing about.
She said this was started by a young man who approached Sarah at her homestead and made all the allegations.
The animated relative further expressed concern that despite obvious injuries that Sarah had allegedly sustained from the fight, her husband still refused that she be taken to hospital and to have the matter reported to the police.     
The husband, found at the homestead, confirmed the fight between his wife and his family.
