TWO DAYS, 12 REPORTS

EZULWINI – A hectic schedule awaits SADC ministers who will converge for council meetings where they will receive and review over 12 reports in two days.


The meetings, which are expected to commence tomorrow morning ,will be held at Mandvulo Royal palace Grand Hall, located at Lozitha and will end on Saturday. Addressing the media yesterday, the incoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers’ Chairman, Minister of Economic Planning and Development Prince Hlangusemphi, said ministers who would be arriving in the country today will meet at the newly-constructed grand hall and receive numerous reports on a number of issues within SADC. Prince Hlangusemphi was accompanied by the Director of Infrastructure and Services, Remmy Makumbe, Director of SADC Unit in the country Chazile Magongo, as well as the acting Senior Public Relations Officer, Jocelyne Lukundula. He said the ministers would also receive reports on the outcome of high level workshops, which had been convened by the outgoing Chairman of SADC, President of Botswana Lt General Ian Khama.

The minister also revealed that the theme for the 36th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government has been proposed by Swaziland in its capacity as incoming Chairman of SADC. “This theme will be presented to the summit for its approval and operation as an important part of SADC’s corporate plan.”

The prince said the council of ministers would also receive the report of the Executive Secretary of SADC Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, of the period 2015/2016, which will cover secretariat activities as well as challenges which had been faced in that period. Ministers will be expected to provide guidance to the secretariat where necessary.
