MBABANE – ‘Good luck’ was the send-off message given to maidens by His Majesty King Mswati III as he  commissioned them to cut the reed yesterday.

Conveying the King’s message to the maidens, Imbali Indvuna Nonduduzo Zubuko said the Monarch pleaded for peace and respect as they travelled to the various places where they would cut the reed. The young maidens were commissioned to fetch the reed at Bhamusakhe at Luyengo, while the older ones would be fetching the reed from Mphisi Farm around Mafutseni.

“We are blessed this year as we have the former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete in our midst.
“He is here with his family to witness the commissioning of the maidens,” the King said. Before the maidens were commissioned at Ngabezweni Royal Residence, they received words of wisdom from Her Majesty the Queen Mother at Ludzidzini Royal Residence where they were told to take care of themselves and respect each other as well as their tindvuna.

Led by Princess Sibahle through to Ngabezweni Royal Residence for commissioning, the maidens showed a lot of energy as they sang different songs such as ‘khulula ugcobo.’
During their short breaks, they had different kinds of dances including ingadla and the zion style siguco.

Upon arrival at Ngwabezweni Royal Residence, Their Majesties provided new sneakers labelled Imbali Foundation.
The maidens were arranged according to their shoe sizes as they queued for the sneakers to make sure that each girl got her size.
In random interviews with the maidens after receiving their gift, they thanked Their Majesties for bridging the gap between the ‘haves and the have nots’.
Noted was that the maidens were transported by buses to their camps.
