MBABANE – In a dramatic scene almost out of an explosive thriller, a young woman was allegedly kidnapped by balaclava-clad soldiers, who were wearing Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) uniforms.

The 20-year-old pupil said she was bundled into the soldiers’ van at gunpoint and told to lie face-down, so that she could not see where she was being taken to by the four men.
According to a statement she recorded with the police, two of the soldiers forced her into the back of the vehicle and threatened to kill her if she did not follow their instructions.

The young woman saw the faces of the driver and the passenger, who were in uniform, through the window separating the front and back compartments.
The pupil’s name and her school are known but will not be revealed as investigations are still ongoing.
The terrified woman claims that she recognised one of the soldiers when they took her back home as he holds a senior position in the USDF.
She described the man as being light in complexion and tall.

The incident, which took place at Mangwaneni, happened last week when the pupil was returning home from school at around midday as she resides at Manzana with her family.
According to the girl, one of the soldiers asked for her residential address and when she told them where she resided, they asked her if she was the daughter of a certain man whom they mentioned and she confirmed that the man was her father. A relative, who spoke to The Times on condition of anonymity, said the vehicle appeared out of nowhere and suddenly came to halt next to the pupil. Two soldiers jumped out of the vehicle wearing balaclavas and demanded that she board the van. The pupil tried to resist, but they threatened to shoot her.

“When she was unsuspectedly pushed into the van, they told her to switch off her cellphone before they took her schoolbag from her. She was told to lie facing down, while being guarded by two of the soldiers.
“They then drove to an unknown destination where she was left with one soldier to guard her. The other soldiers talked for some time. One of them then returned and asked her where she lived. When she told them her residential address, they asked if she was *Vusi’s daughter and she admitted that she was. The soldier then left her again under guard,” the relative said.
“They then started arguing, but she could not hear very well what they were arguing about. It apparently went on for over three hours. The tall soldier, who was light in complexion, came back and ordered her to board another USDF vehicle and he took her home.
