MONENI – Screams of excitement, as well as cries of happiness from elderly women formed the backdrop of the release of Prince Mshoshi II of Moneni yesterday from prison.

Over 50 members of the community converged at the home of the former CTA General Transport Manager (GTM) Polycarp Dlamini, when he returned to the area after spending over two years in jail on charges of fraud.
Dlamini was met by members of his inner council and right hand men, as well as members of the community, including the youth who all danced and sang, jubilantly as they welcomed their leader back home. The prince is also the chief of Moneni.

The occasion was accompanied by emotional outbursts of tears, as well as tearful hugs and kisses from elderly women who cried unashamedly as they embraced Dlamini and held him at arms length
At about 11am, several members of the community were found seated at the entrance to their chief’s home, watching the road intensely while waiting for the convoy of vehicles bringing Dlamini home.

It was revealed that the prince was released yesterday morning from the Matsapha Maximum Prison where he severed his sentence and he was taken to Mbabane, where he met with His Majesty’s Correctional Services Commissioner General Mzuthini Ntjangase before he was whisked off by his wife Khosi, son Mfankhona and other well-wishers from Moneni.

Although the prince was all smiles and seemed to be in a jolly mood, he became overwrought with emotion as he stood back and viewed the community members who had gathered at his home and prepared a welcome feast in his honour.
A group of young people who were part of the welcoming party were clad in matching black and white t-shirts, all hailing the return of their chief.
‘The prince is back to rule Moneni,’ read the inscription on the t-shirts.

It was explained by well-placed sources that Dlamini was released yesterday because he had finished serving his term, after receiving a pardon from His Majesty King Mswati III.  “If you remember well prisoners in the country have been pardoned twice since the incarceration of the prince. This was not just only for him, but for all prisoners kept within correctional services.”
The source said when the first pardon was announced, Dlamini had six months shaved off his four year sentence. When the second pardon was announced during the King’s Birthday held in Nhlangano earlier this year, a third of his sentence was again removed and his release took place as a result.

Just recently, another convict, Ronald Rudd, was also released after the pardon given to prisoners by His Majesty.
Dlamini was charged and found guilty of having defrauded government’s revenue department by colluding with his co-accused to swindle government of E12 360 600.
