LUDZIDZINI – The late Pastor Jameson Ginindza’s family of Lundzi paid 125 cattle to the royal family, as bride price (lobola) for Princess Phumelele yesterday.

Ginindza and the princess were married about 15 years ago. The couple has three children, two girls and a boy.
The lobola ceremony began on Friday night when the Ginindzas announced the number of cattle they were bringing to the royal household.
Yesterday’s event began around 3pm, when His Majesty the King entered the Royal Cattle Byre to inspect the cattle.

This marked the beginning of festivities that went through the night.
The King was impressed with the huge number of cattle offered by the Ginindzas.
After inspecting the cattle, the Ginindza delegation and members of the royal household convened in the arena outside the cattle byre, where song and dance dominated the evening.

Princess Phumelele was at her best as she danced solo. She also outdid herself when she, at different times, danced with the King and the Queen Mother.

Now and again, the Indlovukazi would display her extraordinary dancing skills as she danced alongside the princess and her entourage from Lundzi.
Each time she took to the dancing area, everyone could not help but notice as her seemingly choreographed dance moves brought a lot of excitement in the event.

Festivities went on throughout the night as the delegation from the Ginindza family and the royal household enjoyed the colourful ceremony.
The lively event saw throngs of people from Lundzi enthusiastically participating in dance and song.
Sigombeni Dlamini, the royal emissary, said the event was a success. “We are thankful to the Ginindzas for working hard to raise the cattle,” he said.
He then encouraged the nation to adopt the culture of paying lobola. “It helps unite and strengthen relations between families. We encourage all men to pay lobola for their wives,” he said.
Timothy Mtetwa, Ludzidzini Governor, also said the royal family was happy for the success of the event. “We are noticing a trend where families that have marital relations with the royal family are working harder to outdo each other. This is a healthy competition because last week, the royal family received 140 cattle and this week the number was another impressive 125 cattle,” he said.
Worth noting is that next weeked, the royal residence could also be a hive of activity as a family from Mhlabubovu offers lobola cattle for yet another member of the royal family.
