SITEKI – A supervisor at Maloma Coal Mine has been arrested and subsequently slapped with four counts for allegedly stealing explosives from the company.

Boy Dlamini (42) of Sithobelweni, a Conveyor Belt Supervisor at the mine, allegedly committed the offence last Wednesday while he was reportedly on duty.
According to court papers, Dlamini allegedly did unlawfully and intentionally steal, from an underground magazine, 3x29 x 200 grams Seamax explosives (blasting powder) valued at E9.72.

These explosives, according to court papers, were under the lawful possession of Sifiso Zwane, who is employed as a miner at the company.
It is further revealed on the court papers how Dlamini allegedly stole the explosives.

“Without the permission of the inspector of explosives, the said accused did (allegedly) break or force or temper with the lock of a Magazine or storage box,” reads part of the charge sheet.

The charge sheet further alleges that after allegedly stealing the explosives, Dlamini buried or submerged them. Dlamini appeared before Lubombo Principal Magistrate Dumisani Magagula, at the Siteki Magistrates Court on Friday.
Clad in a navy blue jacket and pants, he looked calm when he stood inside the dock.

He elected to conduct his own defence when his right to legal representation was explained to him.
The Crown, which was represented by Sizwe Matsebula, applied for a trial date but before the magistrate could respond to the application by the Crown, he raised concern about the manner the charge sheet had been drafted.
