FORMER DPM WAS MUCH BETTER THAN PAUL - MPS

EZULWINI – In what could cause political tension, some Members of Parliament (MPs) have said former Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Themba Masuku was a much better DPM than the incumbent Paul Dlamini in terms of service delivery.

This was the view of some of the legislators during a meeting of non-technical stakeholders, which was hosted by the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). The meeting was basically meant to keep the legislators informed of what the agency was doing with regard to fighting the drought situation.

The MPs said they felt like there was no sense of urgency in service delivery from the current DPM’s Office on issues of disaster relief, particularly in food distribution.

Mbabane West MP Johane Shongwe said he was reminded of a time during the former DPM’s tenure when he came to Parliament and announced that all 55 Tinkhundla Centres would be receiving food parcels and each constituency was given about 1 000 bags of mealie-meal, beans, soup and cooking oil. “Why is there such a vast difference now in the handouts because we have a new person in office and why can’t you learn from the past distributions where no one complained because all constituencies were given?” Shongwe wondered.

He asked the representatives of NDMA if they had seen any maize fields in Mbabane, specifically from Mnyamatsini to Waterford.
“There are no fields there so why aren’t the deserving Mbabane residents being given the food parcels? This is why I am reminded of my first term in Parliament when Masuku was the DPM,” said Shongwe.

Appointed MP Prince Magudvulela said he was actually very disappointed that DPM Dlamini had left the workshop shortly after making his speech.  “The DPM, a few months ago, tabled a drought mitigation plan in Parliament and we had hoped that we would be able to discuss it in the House to share ideas so that this plan could be properly implemented with everyone’s input but this did not happen,” said the prince.
