I WAS DRUGGED BY THREE WOMEN – DRINK-DRIVER
MANZINI – A drink-driving offender claimed that he was drugged by three women he had given a lift at Mahlanya.
Thoba Dube (34) of Luyengo said he came across the three women hitchhiking at Mahlanya while he was coming from Lobamba. He said the women informed him that they were going to Matsapha, Mahhala and he gladly gave them a lift.
“When we got to Matsapha they told me that they wanted to buy alcoholic drinks and asked me what I wanted. I told them that I drank Savanna and they brought me one. The drink was opened when one of them gave it to me, however, I did not suspect any mischief. I remember taking a few sips and nothing else after that, I realised after I was woken up by the police that I had been drugged and also robbed in the process,” Dube said before Magistrate Lucia Lukhele yesterday.
Information gathered in court is that the offender was found by the police sleeping inside his vehicle, a Ford sedan at 7am on Sunday.
After waking him up, the alcohol content in his system was tested and found to be 1.21mg/l yet the legal limit stands at 0.37mg/l.
He was charged with contravening the Traffic Act, in that, he was found occupying the driver’s seat while he was under the influence of alcohol.
Sweating
Dube further told the court that he was sweating and shaking before he passed out and that the women drugged him and later robbed him of his tablet, money and groceries, which he had to deliver at his home on the day.
“They stole my valuable items and also the food items which I had bought for my three children. I was on my way home, Mafutseni on the day of the incident. I am still traumatised by the incident Your Worship, especially because the women looked decent and respectable,” the offender said.
Magistrate Lukhele enquired from one Constable Lomalangeni Dlamini, of Matsapha Police Station, if she was aware of the incident, however, the officer told the court that she suspected that Dube was making up the story as he had previously requested for her cellphone to get in touch with his sister, one Sergeant Poppy Gina from Malkerns Police Station.
