MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE – The full implementation of the cooperation agreements Swaziland has with Mozambique could help speed up the realisation of benefits due to both countries.

Speaking at a State banquet hosted by President Filipe Nyusi in honour of his State visit to Mozambique on Thursday night, His Majesty the King said he was hopeful that his visit would emerge with the mapping out of an achievable implementation programme.

“Our two countries have the desired natural and human resources to claim a stake in the regional economy.
‘‘Between us, we have several agreements to make this possible but the challenge always remains with implementation,” he lamented.

Investment

His Majesty said both countries shared similar challenges such as drought, youth unemployment and low investment.
“As members of SADC we have a mammoth task of creating an enabling environment for our citizens to live in. This will be made possible through strategic partnerships aimed at maximising our resources to build economies that compete favourably, globally in  order to add great value to the lives of our people,” he said.

Speaking of the opportunities presented by the SADC integration programme, the     King said these would add the much needed impetus to help the two countries realise these aspirations.
He further emphasised the need for a sustained peaceful environment if economic development goals are to be achieved.

Praised

He praised the Mozambican president for his role as chairperson of the SADC organ on Politics, Defence and Security which is responsible for ensuring peace in the region.
