MBABANE – Police have made a major breakthrough after arresting two members of a syndicate from Mozambique, which came into the country solely to break into homes in the cities’ suburbs.

The police have managed to arrest two of four men, who are believed to have been involved in a string of housebreaking and theft cases, mainly in the suburbs of the capital city. About 21 homesteads were allegedly broken into.

It was revealed that the men would poison the dogs they found at the homesteads before committing the crimes. The houses they allegedly broke into are located at Pine Valley, Thembelihle, Dalraich, Mbangweni and Goje Township in Ezulwini.
Fanuel Quiver (42) and Emidio Mchanga, together with their friends, would allegedly come to Swaziland just to commit the crimes. They allegedly used illegal entry points to enter the country.
The two were arrested at Thembelihle on Monday.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba said, together with the Director of Crime, Assistant Commissioner Sabelo Hlophe and Assistant Superintendent Solomon Mavuso, they met the two yesterday at the Mbabane Police Station and asked them some questions.

He said they told them that they hired a van when they had enough items and used the illegal crossing points to return to their home country to sell the illegal gains.
Mamba said they were arrested while they were still planning to commit more crimes in the country.  “A member of the public alerted the police that he had seen one of the men who was on the police’s wanted list and we managed to track the two down and they were subsequently arrested,” Mamba said.

The police have also released a list of 21 proven cases committed by the duo. Mamba said Quiver was once arrested in 2004 and spent four years in jail. The proven cases date back to 2006.
Two of the cases involve theft from motor vehicles and the total amount of the property involved was E426 000. On January 24, the two are alleged to have broke into a house at Pine valley and made away with items worth E95 000.
The duo appeared before Mbabane Magistrate Philisiwe Simelane yesterday. They were charged with nine counts of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft.

They are alleged to have broken into four houses and stole items valued at E57 200 at Pine Valley. In the first instance, they are said to have broken into the house of David Masina and stole items valued at E23 000. The items included a laptop valued at E8 000, Samsung 42 inch LCD valued at E6 000 and a brush-cutter worth E3 000, among other items.
