MBABANE – Lozitha High School has recorded a shocking 90 failures.

Despite the school having recorded the second highest number of failures in the country, Head teacher Mandla Mathabela feels the pupils performed well.

The school recorded 90 failures and closely followed Ngcoseni Central High School, which recorded 94 failures.
Out of the 195 pupils who sat for the Junior Certificate Examinations at Lozitha High School, 37 of the candidates attained third class passes. They were narrowly redeemed by four of their school mates, who attained first class passes and 64 got second class passes.

In an interview yesterday, Mathabela, who arrived in the school in September last year, said judging from the obtaining situation the pupils performed well.

Mathebala, who replaced Mandla Dlamini, who has since retired from the teaching service, is from Masundvwini High School.
He said a number of the pupils attained third class passes in the Primary Certificate Examinations and some of them were rejected from other schools.  He further disclosed that some of the pupils did not write some of the papers during the examination.

“A number of the pupils stay in rented houses with no one to monitor them. Sometimes if an arrangement is made for them to come on Saturdays you find that they have gone to their various homesteads and when informed to come to school they complain that they do not have bus fare,” said Mathabela.

He said there were a lot of contributing factors which led to the pupils failing the examinations.
