MBABANE – The President of the Swaziland Principals Association (SWAPA), who is also Mbekelweni High School Head teacher, Mduduzi Bhembe has been suspended with immediate effect.

Bhembe was yesterday suspended by the Ministry of Education and Training following 48 complaints against him. This publication has gathered that Bhembe was served with the letter of suspension by the regional education officer (REO) and other officers yesterday at his school.
In a letter dated October 2, 2015, the ministry informed Bhembe that it was addressing complaints against him. It further informed him that the letter was a notice of suspension.

The ministry stated that pursuant to previous correspondence dated September 29, 2015 and Bhembe’s subsequent failure to respond thereto, he was suspended with immediate effect.
“... We hereby notify you of your suspension with immediate effect, while we pursue the issue of the charges being proffered, emanating from 48 complaints against you.”

The letter further stated that the development had been prompted by issues that needed to be addressed. It stated that it would have impossible to do so while Bhembe was in office as chief invigilator, hence the need to suspend him. The ministry, through the office of the Principal Secretary Pat Muir, further said it had reason to believe that Bhembe had received a copy of a letter from the Examinations Council of Swaziland.

“We are letting you have a copy herewith, for your convenient reference. You will appreciate from the contents therein, that the interest of the examination candidates has to take priority and your participation will not be conducive to the smooth conduct of examinations,” reads the letter in part. The Examinations Council had resolved that question papers to the school headed by Bhembe were no longer safe under his leadership.
