MP, HEADMAN AT LOGGERHEADS

MBABANE – A tractor dona- ted by the Swaziland Environmental Authority (SEA) to the Lobamba constituency is now at the centre of controversy between MP Michael Masilela and Bhekisisa Bhembe, the constituency headman.

Masilela and Bhembe are now pointing fingers at each other over the area’s development.
Bhembe is accusing the legislator of interfering in his duties when he is supposed to concentrate on parliament issues only.
However, Masilela has argued that he is supposed to be involved in development issues in the area as the area’s representative in Parliament.
He alleges that Bhembe is non-cooperative and does not want to work with others in the constituency.

When the tractor was handed over, it was given to the Lobamba Conservative Club (LCC), which was to use it to keep the constituency clean during the ninth Parliament.
This was when Majahodvwa Khumalo was still the area’s MP.

According to Bhembe, the tractor ended up not serving its intended purpose because some of the LCC members ended up using it for personal errands and some of the constituency’s chiefdoms did not benefit.
The headman said when he came into office in 2013, he discovered that the tractor no longer served its purpose and the LCC had been divided over its usage.

“Former MP Majahodvwa wrote a letter to the Swaziland Environmental Authority, informing it that the tractor would be used by the club. When we discovered that the club was now divided over the issue of the tractor, the inkhundla decided to recall it. However, the LCC refused with it, claiming that it was their property,” Bhembe said.

Dear Editor,
the tractor belongs to SEA and they can withdraw its use if the communities , the MP and the Inkundla is irresponsible.
The objective is to reduce and minimise waste as well as to keep Lobamba clean .
it is not for practising politics.
The gentlemen must stop all this nonsense and get on with the work that the tractor has been given them to do.
I remain
