MBABANE – There are chances that more drivers stand to be arrested following the tragic accident that left 10 maidens and three tindvuna dead.

Immediately after the accident, where trucks ferrying maidens collided with a van, Fraser Sigwili Ndzimandze (46) of Lwandle  was arrested and charged with culpable homicide.

This has led to questions posed by a number of people on why one driver was arrested while the accident was a pile-up. The public in a variety of forums has wondered why others were not arrested.

Investigations

Inspector Phindile Vilakati, who is the Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer, when interviewed by this publication, said investigations were ongoing.
Without getting into the merits of the case, she said: “Police are investigating the matter and there are chances that more people may be arrested.”
However, she was quick to explain that the case was in court, hence her comment was limited.

Meanwhile, the only arrested driver at the moment is languishing at a Correctional facility following that he was denied bail. Principal Magistrate David Khumalo said he denied him bail for his own safety.
The deceased maidens and tindvuna will be buried this weekend following a mass national memorial service at the Old Trade Fair Ground.
