ONDIYANENI – A 30-year-old Swazi man who was on vacation in Mozambique was killed and his body buried in a riverbank, allegedly for his luxurious motor vehicle, a BMW M3.

It is suspected that Mxolisi Vika Nxumalo, who was now based in South Africa, was murdered by his Mozambican friend.
The friend, whose name is known to this publication, is believed to be on the run.
Mxolisi had travelled from his rented house in Tembisa, South Africa with the Mozambican, who was also based in that country, for Mozambique early last month.

Mxolisi’s sister Nompumelelo told the Times SUNDAY that they were informed that Mxolisi was supposed to have driven to Mozambique with a different friend, who is also Mozambican.
“However, the suspect is said to have insisted that they drive together in Mxolisi’s car, adding that the older Mozambican would find them in Mozambique.
“Since they were age mates, I believe that is how Mxolisi was convinced by the suspect,” she related. An elder of the family, Musawenkhosi Nxumalo, was also present during the interview at the family homestead in Ondiyaneni.
Ondiyaneni is located past Nhlangano in the Shiselweni Region.

The homestead is situated a stone’s throw from Chief Makutwane Nxumalo’s residence (umphakatsi). The chief is Mxolisi’s grandfather.
After the brief break, Nompumelelo continued: “That was the last time he was seen alive.”
Nompumelelo recounted that they last had contact with Mxolisi on July 9, 2015 through a text message sent through the social media application, WhatsApp.
“He was conversing with his other brother. He told him that he was in Mozambique on vacation,” she said.

Nompumelelo said they later received a call from her sister-in-law, who is in South Africa, informing them that Mxolisi had not returned from his vacation.
She mentioned that the sister-in-law told them that there were contradicting stories about the whereabouts of Mxolisi.

“We were told that the friend who had left with Mxolisi initially told the other friends in South Africa that Mxolisi was in Johannesburg. However, he later changed tune to say that he had returned to Swaziland.
“The same man then disappeared and was reported to be in Mozambique after being questioned by the other friends,” she said.
She further said that the older Mozambican man had opened a missing person file with the local police.
