MBABANE – Stanlib Swaziland Senior Business Development Manager Gordon Bennett has taken the mother of his child to the High Court over the child’s custody.

Bennett alleged that the mother of his child, Gabisile Annita Magagula, who is employed by AMADI, took the child from him on June 5, 2015 under the pretext that he was going to visit his grandmother, and has not returned ever since.
He alleged that the child was being held as a ransom by Magagula in order that he paid the customary fine for impregnating her.
Bennett submitted that this was not in the best interest of the child.

“The minor child is in need of urgent protection because he is being compelled to leave school and/or being confined or detained by Magagula, much against the Children’s Protection and Welfare Act,” said Bennett.

These are allegations contained in an affidavit whose veracity is still to be tested in court and Magagula is yet to respond.
Other respondents in this matter are the principal secretary in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the national commissioner of police and the attorney general.

In his application, Bennett stated that they were involved in a relationship with Magagula until 2013 but were never married.
“I have been responsible for the care and parenting of the minor child.
“I have always been the parent responsible for the minor child’s daily routine,” alleged Bennett.

He further informed the court that Magagula, by her own choice, had very limited involvement in the daily life of the child since he was a toddler.
“The minor child is about four years old now.
