MBUKWANE – A bid to have a child ended tragically for a couple, when the woman died while her husband was admitted to hospital, after drinking a solution meant (imbita) to end their frustration.

The tragic incident happened at Mbukwane, near Mahamba Border Gate on Sunday. Xolile Mthethwa (37), who was married to a soldier, died on Sunday just after 11pm.
Before she met her death, the woman is said to have tried, in vain, for years to have a child. After many frustrating and tension-filled years, the couple is said to have turned to traditional medicine.

On Sunday, they reportedly approached a traditional healer in the area, who subsequently prescribed two solutions to be administered differently.
One was for the couple to drink, while the other one was to be administered through enema. It is not clear what later transpired between the man and the woman when they finally got the chance to take their medicine.

However, it was gathered that while the couple was asleep on Sunday, the woman started to complain of abdominal pains.
The husband was also not spared as he is also said to have registered similar complaints and efforts were made to seek medical attention for the couple.

However, the woman died before she could reach a healthcare facility. Her husband was transported to the Nhlangano Health Centre and later transferred to the Hlatikhulu Government Hospital in critical condition.

A younger sister of the deceased confirmed the tragedy. She, however, said the details regarding what really transpired were scanty as she was not with the couple when it all happened.
