MADULINI – The school ball games have become synonymous with violence witnessed in soccer matches pitting bigger teams as a school had to be closed while in another, a pupil was injured and admitted to hospital.

Two separate incidents happened this week in different schools during the ongoing ball games.
In one incident, chaos erupted when  pupils went on a rampage at Madulini High School yesterday morning, leaving a trail of destruction. The bone of contention was an aborted soccer match after the sports teacher reportedly forgot to bring the school players’ registration cards to the playing field on Wednesday.

Mthobisi Dlamini, Secretary of the Nhlangano branch of the Swaziland Schools Sports Association (SSSA), said this resulted in the school forfeiting the game to their opponents.
The angry pupils felt sabotaged by their teachers as they stormed the school yesterday morning, smashed windows and burnt tyres before destroying stationery, including teachers’ guides.

A female teacher was also caught in the crossfire as she sustained injuries while coming from the toilet.
The school had to be closed indefinitely after consideration of the extent of the damage caused by the angry pupils.
Eyewitnesses said a group of pupils entered the school premises in the morning before the start of operations and locked some of the classrooms and the school gate.

This prompted teachers to call Fire and Emergency Services personnel to break the padlocks which had been used by the pupils.
However, all hell broke loose as the agitated pupils ran through the corridors armed with stones and logs, smashing windows in the process.
Teachers were not spared as they were also pelted with the stones before they all crammed into the staffroom, which was also vandalised.
