NGCULWINI – The father of the man who was caught naked with his wife at night and claimed to be practising witchcraft had the police to thank as they foiled a planned arson attack by irate residents at his homestead.

This was after a mob of incensed residents stormed the parental homestead of the man caught parading in the still of the night at Ngculwini. The incident happened on Saturday around 8pm where the youth of the area organised themselves and stormed the homestead and bayed for the blood of the father and attempted to torch the homestead. However, their planned attack failed, thanks to the presence of the police who had long been deployed to provide 24-hour security at the homestead.

Some of the residents interviewed at the area yesterday said they want edthe family to vacate the place.
They said if it were not for the presence of the police, today we could have been reporting on a different story. The angry youth alleged that they have heard that there has already been an order that the family should vacate the place and seek a new beginning somewhere else.

After the attempted attack, the family of the naked couple was quickly rescued by the police officers on guard who loaded them at the back of a police van.
The residents are said to have demanded their release so they could have a word with the father of the man and lay their hands on him.
However, the police officers made sure the safety of the father and his family was not threatened by the uncompromising residents. They were later driven away by police to the Mafutseni Police Station.

The residents are said to have vowed to come back before the end of this week to drive the family out and torch the homestead. In an interview, they alleged that they were the most affected by the witchcraft practised in the area.
“None of the youth are prosperous. We have university graduates here but all of them are not working. We ought to be living successful lives, but that is not the case because of some individuals whom we don’t even know what they gain from bewitching us.

“We don’t want him here anymore, he must leave the place,” said the youth.
During the foiled attack, Manzini Regional Commissioner Richard Mngometulu, with other officers, came to the scene to calm down the residents.
