CJ CANNOT BE ARRESTED LIKE AN ORDINARY PERSON - TOP LAWYER

MBABANE – A top lawyer has said the Chief Justice (CJ) Michael Ramodibedi cannot just be arrested like an ordinary person.

The CJ has locked himself in his house resulting in a 16-day impasse with law enforcers. The lawyer said the matter involved many stakeholders including two countries which have a very friendly relationship. He said the CJ’s position in the country should also be considered.

He said another important factor that should not be overlooked was that the CJ was living with his wife and two children. “We don’t want a situation where anyone in his family or police officers gets injured just because force was used,” said the legal expert. He, however, noted that stalling of the arrest may set a precedent in the future for people to behave in the same way. Inspector Phindile Vilakati the Deputy Information and Communications Officer (PICO) said despite the pace, the law would take its course.
