MARIO MASUKU’S MOTHER IS DEAD

MANZINI – The mother of imprisoned political activist and President of proscribed entity PUDEMO, Mario Masuku, is late.

 The death of the elderly Gogo Masuku - as she was known within political circles - has shocked members of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) who all loved her as the mother of the president of the organisation.

She died over the weekend and it is believed that she was about 100 years of age.
Mario’s son, Mzwandile ,confirmed the demise of his grandmother but declined to release further information on what caused her death or to make a statement on behalf of the family. “Yes it is true, my grandmother is late and we are going through a difficult time as the Masuku family. I have been informed that the elders in the family will be releasing a statement jointly on my grandmother’s death,” Mzwandile said briefly when called. 

Second Deputy Secretary of PUDEMO Mphandlana Shongwe also expressed the organisation’s shock over the demise of Gogo Masuku.
“We have lost immensely in the death of gogo, who was the mother of our leader Mario Masuku.” Shongwe said the organisation had suffered a huge loss as they were by extension a member of the Masuku family.

He mentioned that presently of most concern was the health of their president, who was imprisoned as they are aware that the news of his mother’s demise will take its toll on him.

“Being imprisoned at this time is not a favourable condition for any child who has lost a parent and we do hope that our president will at least be afforded the opportunity to bury his mother,” Shongwe said.

He declined to reveal what the next course of action for the organisation would be as he stated that, as PUDEMO, they would await the dictates of the Masuku family on what needed to be released to the media concerning the death of Gogo Masuku.
