MBABANE – Chief Justice (CJ) Michael Ramodibedi has described the rumours that he has fled the country as nonsense and the people peddling such rumours as liars.

The CJ and his family are currently in South Africa. He left at a time when he was reported to have been summoned by Labadzala.
Rumours, especially within the Judiciary, had been circulating that the CJ, who is also the Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), had also resigned.

Ramodibedi further dismissed the rumours that he had resigned.
In a brief interview yesterday, the CJ described the allegations that he had fled the country as nonsense and lies.
“It’s all lies and nonsense that I have fled the country and that I have resigned,” said the CJ.

The CJ, however, did not disclose his whereabouts and efforts to ascertain whether he did heed the summons by Labadzala proved futile as the conversation between him and this reporter was cut short.

On Wednesday, the CJ left the country to South Africa through the Ngwenya Border Gate.
The police officers who escort him are reported to have turned back at the border.

Usually when the CJ embarks on an external trip, he leaves with police escorts but this time around it was not the case.
Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer Inspector Phindile Vilakati confirmed that the CJ left without his escorts.

She said the reason the police turned back at the border was because there was no request that had been made for security. Vilakati said the police officers only escorted the CJ to the border gate.
