TEACHER PERFORMS RITUAL ON 15 PUPILS
MBABANE – A teacher at Dvokodvweni High School stands accused of allegedly performing a ritual (kugcaba/kugata) on some pupils who are in the school’s soccer team.
About 15 pupils are said to have undergone the process and an unknown substance was rubbed on their feet.
All this was done in an attempt to ensure that the school scored goals and won against its opponents.
The incident is said to have happened last week when the school’s soccer team was preparing for a match against Hluthi High School.
So serious is the matter such that parents of the affected pupils were now threatening litigation against the school and wanted the quick intervention of the Ministry of Education and Training.
A source close to the matter said the ritual was performed very close to the sports ground where the match was to be played
The Head teacher of the school, Meshack Nkambule, confirmed the matter when sought for comment yesterday.
However, Nkambule distanced the school administration from this practice and said the teacher was doing it on his own.
“We never sent him to perform rituals on the pupils. I am also shocked that a teacher did this to the pupils without the consent of the parents. I haven’t asked him yet where he got the muti from but he confirmed knowledge of the matter.
“He only used the muti on the boy’s team because the netball team is under the care of other teachers. We lost the game. We are going to have a word with him about the matter. The school’s administration was not aware of this practice,” said Nkambule.
The head teacher said he would also consider calling a parents meeting to apologise to them. Nkambule said the school was guided by Christianity principles and that they knew the teacher as someone also guided by such principles.
