MBABANE – Government Spokesperson Percy Simelane said the team that has been set up to resolve the challenges in the country’s Judiciary will not be against certain individuals but will work towards finding a solution to the impasse.

Simelane said there would be no bias in the findings of the team upon completion of their task. Among the team, two High Court judges have been selected, as well as Cabinet ministers.

The objective of setting up the team is to resolve the ‘bad blood’ between the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Sibusiso Shongwe and his Principal Secretary Thembinkosi Mamba.

Simelane said it would not have been proper to select people from one profession; making an example that if they selected only accountants in the team, he doubted there would be a solution.

“I am not sure if the team has already started their task, maybe you can call one of the team members for information if they have started. The team is purely to resolve issues in the Judiciary, not to look at individuals,” Simelane said.

The impasse between the minister and the PS has seen the freezing of the Ministry of Justice’s budget by Members of Parliament. The ministry’s budget and its entire departments was placed under Head 60 until Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini solved the impasse between the two.

Sought for comment if the team had already started resolving the impasse in the Judiciary, some of the members of the team flatly refused to comment. They suggested that the right person to comment was the government spokesperson or the Judiciary itself.
