MBABANE – Some trade unions and political parties have cheered on the Prime Minister (PM), Sibusiso Dlamini and Chief Justice (CJ) Michael Ramodibedi’s public spat while others insist that this was painting a bad image of the country.

Quotes such as ‘Qude maniki niki zindala zombili ziyalingana’ were heard from some unionists.
The public spat between the CJ and the PM comes a month after His Majesty King Mswati III, during the official opening of the second session of the 10th Parliament, expressed concern about individuals who were tarnishing the country’s image.

He said it should deeply concern every Swazi to hear people who have no knowledge of Swazi culture, ‘portraying it in bad light on some foreign forums’.
Last week, the PM, upon his return from the inauguration of the newly-elected Prime Minister of Lesotho Phakalithi Mosisili, said government had not thought that the CJ needed security and diplomatic immunity when visiting his native country, Lesotho.

Dlamini was responding to this publication’s question on why government grounded the CJ’s trip to Lesotho for the inauguration ceremony.
“He had requested security and diplomatic immunity for his trip to Lesotho, so that he could not be harassed in his home country,” the PM said.

Responding to the PM’s statement upon his return from Lesotho, the CJ launched a scathing attack on the premier’s statement that he (CJ) requested immunity and security for the trip.
Registrar of the High Court Fikile Nhlabatsi issued a statement on behalf of the CJ, where she stated that the PM’s statement was absolutely untrue and was meant to mislead the nation.

Cementing the public spat was the premier’s warning to Nhlabatsi that she should stay away from politics or else face the music when the CJ, whom he referred to as ‘Bhova’, finally ‘moves out of the way’.
