WOMAN FASTS 30 DAYS, DIES
NGUDZENI - A devoted and epileptic Christian (50) succumbed to death after she fasted for 30 days.
This was despite calls by her mother to at least eat something as she only drank water during the period.
The deceased Nonhlanhla Nkambule hails from Ngudzeni in the Shiselweni region.
The courageous Christian was a member of the Ngudzeni New Covenant Church under Bishop Enock Maseko.
Biblically, fasting is abstaining from food, drink, sleep or sex to focus on a period of spiritual growth.
Specifically, Christians humbly deny something of the flesh to glorify God, enhance their spirit, and go deeper in prayer. Also, it is to develop a closer walk with God. By taking eyes off the things of this world, Christians hope to focus better on Christ.
Reasons behind the deceased’s fasting remains undisclosed so far. However, church members have said the deceased was carrying out orders from the church to fast for 40 days.
She, however, succumbed to death on the 31st day in her house.
Her mother, Gogo Lintji Nkambule, claimed that the deceased had earlier fasted for 40 days.
Even this time, it is believed that she wanted to reach 40 days of fasting as Christ did.
The distraught mother said she was still shocked by the death of her first-born daughter.

“She had fasted before her death. She fasted for over 30 days. She was found dead in her house, abezilile lomuntfu. I begged her to eat but she refused. Nonhlanhla told me that God has a way of recalling people. I told her that she might die and leave her children behind, but she told me that God might recall her if need be. She said she belonged to God.”
