SITEKI – At least E50 000 in traffic fines has gone missing from the Siteki Police Station, the Times can reveal.
The money is said to have been collected from motorists during traffic operations.

According to impeccable sources, at least E50 000 was stolen from the Traffic Department and another undisclosed amount went missing from the administration section of the police station.

Two police officers have been implicated in the different theft incidents and investigations have been launched.
The names of the officers are known to this publication but will not be disclosed as they have not been charged yet.
The officers have, however, not been suspended while the investigations are ongoing.

It is not the first time that a case of theft has been reported at the Siteki Police Station.
“The money was stolen over a long period of time before the theft was discovered,” the sources said.
The theft of the money is said to have started last year.

It was discovered that the sequence of receipts from the Revenue Department did not tally with the money that was deposited.
Police officers from the station are concerned that the two have not been suspended and even suspect that they might have been promoted. One of the implicated officers has allegedly been transferred to the regional head office.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, disgruntled officers said the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) Service was not aware that there was money missing.
