MBABANE – There is an increase in the number of boys engaging in sexual relationships with women older than them by at least 10 years.

This is according to the extended National Multisectoral HIV and AIDS Framework (eNSF) 2014-2018 survey report.
The survey showed that there was an increase in the number of males aged 15-24 dating older women.

In the past, it was common for females of the age group 15 to 25 to date older men.
The latest statistics from the National Emergency Research Council on HIV and AIDS (NERCHA) through eNSF show that this was changing.
The statistics now reflect that boys as young as 15 years are engaging in sex with women aged at least 25 years or more.

A boy or man who engages in sex with a female who is older than them by 10 years is informally referred to as a ‘Ben 10’.
This is the case when the woman is older by 10 years or more.

A ‘Ben 20’ would refer to a boy or a man dating a woman older by at least 20 years.
The report is a document presented as a social responsibility and contribution for investing in HIV.

The programme is supported by the World Bank as well as The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS).
The aim of the eNSF is to stop the spread of HIV and reverse its impact on Swazi society.

The number of younger women said to be dating older men is said to be increasing according to the report.
This is especially true for those aged between 15 and 24.
