JERICHO PRIEST BEATS UP ‘CHEATING’ UMKHOKHELI

MBABANE – A Jericho priest has been convicted for beating up his wife, umkhokheli, for being in a love affair with another man.
The incident happened at Ncesi, an area situated in the northern Hhohho region.

Narrating her story at the National Court in Mbabane, the survivor Thulisile Khumalo told the court that her husband, Simon Mnisi, assaulted her after he saw her sitting with another man on a rock at Ncesi.

She said upon her return to the homestead, Mnisi did not want to listen to her reasoning and beat her up.
“He did not mind the presence of the children and assaulted me like a child with a stick all over the body. I was not expecting him to bother me because we have been separated for 10 years after I was accused of bewitching his brother,” she told the court.

Khumalo, who appeared at the court with scars all over her body and some on her face, acknowledged that she decided to spend more of her time at her workplace after the accusations.

 The injuries she sustained following the assault were confirmed by a doctor’s report produced in court.
 Mnisi appeared before National Court President Chief Lembelele Dlamini where he was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

However, when stating his side of the story, Mnisi admitted that he severely beat up his wife.
He told the court that his wife was in a love affair with another man, something which was ruining his character as a priest.
“I caught her red-handed with her secret lover. I found them sitting on a rock,” he said.
