KIDNAPPED MAN SLEEPS WITH CORPSE FOR 2 DAYS

BETHANY – A 31-year-old man allegedly escaped from eight armed kidnappers after a four-day ordeal, two days of which he allegedly spent next to a man’s body in a donga.
Nkosinathi Hlophe of Sigcineni alleged that the decomposed body was tied with chains against a tree in the donga.

Narrating his ordeal, he said he left home on Sunday night when he was attacked by the alleged kidnappers, who were allegedly armed with all sorts of weapons, ranging from guns to bush knives.
Hlophe found his attackers waiting for him at his home on the day and was approached by one of them who demanded dagga, which he said he did not have, but managed to fight back and flee.
He alleged that he spent the night in the wilderness and when he went back home on Monday during the day, the eight armed kidnappers stormed his home and attacked him but again he managed to run away.

“They ran after me until they caught me at the top of one of the mountains in the area and they assaulted me with fists, open hands and kicks.
“Again, I managed to escape. After being satisfied that I had outpaced them, I climbed a tree and hid at the top so that I could watch their moves,” Hlophe said.
After about two hours Hlophe said he decided to climb down and go home as it was getting dark.
While on his way back home, he came across his attackers and another chase ensued.

“They ran after me, driving me down into a donga where I found a dead man tied with chains against a tree.
“The corpse had decomposed as it was mainly bones. They told me that I would also die there after seven days as I would be without food and water,” Hlophe said.
He alleged that he tried to escape from their custody during the night as they fell asleep but they caught him and took him back to the donga.

“I spent the following day and night in the donga, next to the dead man. At night, I heard them speaking on the phone that after the seven days, they would cut my testicles, tongue and hand before leaving me to die there.
“I could not sleep after overhearing that conversation as it became clear to me that I would die.
“Luckily for me, they fell asleep and I managed to sneak out of the donga without them noticing my move,” he claimed.
