MBABANE – A 29-year-old mother of three is among the thousands of learners who passed after sitting for the 2014 Swaziland Primary Certificate (SPC) examination.
A 40-year-old civil servant also passed Standard Five.

The SPC results for over 24 300 candidates were released last Tuesday.
Lydia Nakuze, a Rwandan refugee residing in Ezulwini, obtained a Merit pass while Zephaniah Silindza, who works for the Ministry of Natural Resources, obtained a Second Class pass.
The duo enrolled as learners at the Sebenta Institute of non-formal education in Mbabane.
Nakuze lives with her father whom she said was 66 years old.

She said her source of income came from some of the part-time work her father did.
Nakuze said her father was an electrician by profession but not formally employed.
Due to the war in Rwanda, she was not able to go to school.

Nakuze said a civil war broke out in her country when she was aged nine. This was in 1994.
Nakuze arrived in Swaziland in 2011. She said when she first went to Sebenta Institute on non-formal education, her aim was to learn English and Siswati.
She said the programme lasted about six months in 2013.

Noteworthy, Nakuze spoke English fluently during the interview, even though she said she was still learning to speak Siswati.
Her three children are fluent in both languages.
