FATHER ASSAULTS, KILLS DAUGHTER’S BOYFRIEND

MBABANE – In a rare incident, a Zionist male congregant has been killed by an elderly man for being in a love relationship with his daughter.

Simphiwe Mkhonta, employed by Tibiyo TakaNgwane, died tragically after being allegedly beaten with a knobkerrie all over the body, including on the head by the father of the girl he was in love with. It was said the father was opposed to the relationship because he had reserved his daughter for a soldier.

The incident happened at Lobamba last Sunday at around midnight. It is alleged that Mkhonta was assaulted with a knobkerrie before he was dragged out of his house and tied with a shoelace, a few metres away from his house.

At first, police were investigating a suicide incident, prompted by the shoelace that was found tied around Mkhonta’s neck.
However, in a subsequent interview, they confirmed that investigations were still ongoing in the matter and they could not rule out murder.
According to a resident of the area, who witnessed the incident, the alleged murderer got a tip-off that his daughter had been invited by Mkhonta to his house on the Sunday evening.

He is said to have requested some people to accompany him to Mkhonta’s house, where he heard the voices of the duo inside.
Upon arrival at the house, the father of the girl is said to have forced entry and allegedly started assaulting Mkhonta with the knobkerrie.
At this point, witnesses said the girl was hiding under Mkhonta’s bed.

After discovering that he was unconscious, the father of the girl is said to have been assisted by his accomplices to drag him out of the house before allegedly tying him around the neck with the shoelace.
