SINYAMANTULWA – A week after the world commemorated the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a man allegedly assaulted and further pelted his mother and sister with stones.
The incident occurred yesterday at Sinyamantulwa, situated under the Lubuli Constituency in the Lubombo region.

According to Gogo Betty Tsabedze, the bone of contention was a plate that was used by one of the children at the homestead.

Drama

Narrating events leading to the drama which unfolded at around 7am, Tsabedze said she was preparing to go weed her maize fields when she heard her daughters scream.
“I had just finished eating my sour porridge when I heard commotion from outside my room. When I rushed to inspect, I found Mduduzi assaulting his two sisters with a stick,” she said.
Tsabedze said she ordered her son to immediately stop what he was doing.

Instead of obeying the order, Tsabedze said her 34-year-old son turned his attention to her.

Inheritance

“He said he had always wanted to kill me because I was refusing to hand over his inheritance,” said the elderly woman, who had visible injuries on the arm, leg and thighs.
Tsabedze said Mduduzi stopped pelting them with the stones when one of the girls told him they were calling the police.
She said he ran away after being told that police were on their way to the homestead.
Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed that Lubuli police were handling the matter.
He said police were still searching for the 34-year-old man.

I think it must be warmer where you are, as my two surnivivg offshoots of Hedychium (the third one was left outdoors as a misguided experiment and perished in the Great Winter of 2010) have produced several flower spires which aren't yet flowering: I am practically salivating in anticipation. I adore Hedychium and want lots more: if it's invasive, there are plenty worse things to be invaded by.Incidentally you probably already know that the edible types of ginger (as you would expect I am even more interested in gingers you can eat) is a whole different genus, Zingiber, and is usually only for those with heated greenhouses in this country. However I discovered today there is a hardy edible ginger you can grow, called Zingiber mioga. I plan to get some post-haste will let you know via the blog-next-door what happens
