CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

Sir,

A lot of people will agree with me that year 2014, even though not yet over, has been an excellent period. It has been a year full of achievements and acquisitions.
However, some would undoubtedly disagree with me.

Change of attitude, behaviour and habit is usually one of the hardest things one would possibly do, but is maybe made easier by following certain deliberate steps.
You need to recognise that you have been making unhealthy and unsafe choices, recognise the need for change.
If you are a student, acknowledge that you have to change your academic behaviour.

This will then drive you towards the next step, which is resolving; stop being terrified, use your knowledge to liberate yourself from fearing the unknown.
Make a conscious decision to change how you treat the people around you. Stop disturbing other students while learning; it will help you focus too. This will take you to the next step which is rethinking.
Think of good reasons and benefits of changing your behaviour, be positive, think of the people you will please for doing well in your academics.

Now you can go on to rejection; boldly reject the habit of playing in class, reject the habit of not studying, reject those worthless friends, it will help them to rethink too.
Rejection hurts, they will make up their ways to avoid a second rejection.

This will then drive you to resist; anticipate and reject the temptation to go back to your old boring ways, resist going back to not writing homework, resist getting to class late for whatever reason.
Resist making the same mistakes over and over again, it will make you a failure.
You have done it, go on now and don’t look back.

Go to the next step, go to replace; fill the void created by changing your old habits.
If necessary choose new friends, try those with whom you share the same vision and goals, friends who will drive you towards greatness rather than dragging you back into the mud you have just unleashed yourself from.
Having done that now you are ready to reaffirm. Reaffirm your new beliefs, thoughts and habits to yourself, do this constantly and keep them in your mind. Tell those you love about these new commitments too.
Then you can reward yourself; celebrate every positive change, it will boost your confidence and make you work harder. It will make you want to work hard for more change.
Reward yourself in any way you like, you will have earned it.

After rewarding yourself go on and relate; associate with people who will support you, reinforce your new habits, get rid of negative people they will hold you back simply because it is the only thing they are capable of doing. Do not allow anyone to stop you from shining.

Finally review; unrecognised gaps cannot be evaluated and eliminated. You know your weaknesses and bad habits, turn these around and make them your strongest points.
Live a healthy and productive life, shine bright, not like a diamond but more than it. Remember change is possible, no matter what.
