UKK BURIES THE HATCHET

Sir,

We are making this statement following rumours over the dispute that has led to Ukuthokoza Kwamadodana( UKK) seeing a division between its members.

Articles published in the media stated that UKK was formed three years ago by Themba Msweli, our former led vocalist. This information is not true and causes confusion to our fans. UKK was in fact formed in 2001 and is now 13 years old, and has only released an album late 2012 titled Eliya.  It was formed by Sicelo Maziya and Innocent Shongwe. All the other members joined what had already been formed by these two and that includes Themba Msweli who was among the first.

We have sought the intervention of ACASWA, however, I am not going to dwell much on the issues that were solved by ACASWA with regard to the usage of the choir’s name, a ruling came out and that was it.
We are now making an official statement because we want to avoid the confusion that has been circulating.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank our dear fans for their loyalty, it is okay for us to be left with two fans if our conscience is clear. Let me announce now that the matter over the use of the name and who started the group deserves to be laid to rest. Our focus will now be on building the choir from the debris of this matter. We will also go to God and ask him to make a new covenant with us.

We have taken a decision to ask for forgiveness from our brothers for anything wrong we did to them and we hereby declare that we have forgiven them as well, because forgiving them has given us the key to not being permanently victimised by them and whatever the initial impact of the insults and offence done to us, our refusal to carry a grudge and react has saved what could have been a nasty situation. We have set ourselves free from the grip of anger, pain and disappointment that was constantly trying to attach itself to the Lord’s choir.

Mfankhona Lukhele
Choir Chairperson
