10TH PARLIAMENT HAS LOTS OF WORK TO DO

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Please allow me to challenge the newspaper readers. As a reader, are you happy with what we letter writers usually write about?

This is freedom of expression. Something is not right, though. I am not a specialist and, so far, I have not figured out what really is causing this, but it affects us as citizen taxpayers, which is why we write about these things.
I value all those who contribute to our economy.

So, who has allowed foreigners to exploit the locals who are employed in the textile factories?
He or she must have a weakness when dealing with those foreigners.

They are given preferential treatment over Swazis and allowed to run businesses that even Swazis could run or operate. It is painful.
The issue of refusing some students scholarships was also just a clear sign of failure. I cannot stand to have a person who will ban scholarships for his countrymen, when the money is also raised by Swazis in the form of taxes.

Suffer

Where does he expect tertiary students to get money to fund their tertiary education? He or she is paid by the taxpayer; why should children suffer?
He or she will be remembered as wanting to stop scholarships, which it is not good. All children of Swazi citizens deserve an education; whether they affiliate to certain organisations or are from a rich family, they have a right to choice.

Giving our children education means our country, Swaziland, will benefit from them.
It was with great disappointment I heard that. Even in our Constitution, it is very clear about it. It is wrong to try to prove things to other people in life. What should be clear is that no one is asking from their pocket but from taxes.

Education

I wish more was given to Education and Health. These are some of the things that can help us to achieve a First World country by 2022.
These are issues that must be addressed soon by the Tenth Parliament. It pains me. I don’t know how we are going to survive until 2022.
We were all looking at the budget as our last solution. My concern, Mr Editor, is that these people are taxpayers so they must be protected in the end, as Swazi workers.

So, allow me to highlight this to our MPs - to be there is not by mistake.

Rude

Some of you know about this. So please don’t forget where you come from and don’t be rude to us. Please don’t forget the people who put you there.
They left their jobs and their homesteads and queued for you from morning until sunset.
So stop saying to the people ‘whether you elected me or not, I am now your MP’.

The members of the public will be watching every step you take. We shall criticise the greedy ones who are there to serve their rumbling stomachs.
We want legislators who are going to fight for their people. We need legislators in the true sense of the word. Sikhatsi sabovuma zonkhe sesiphelile.

People, in life you are judged by the things you do or say to others. Everyone deserves to be respected. Call yourself their master, but do not misuse them.
The fault that government has no money should not be used as an excuse to not deliver services. Forget that people cannot tell you anything because you are their MP.

You are not there for life or to enjoy the tax money they are paying for your salary.

Disputes

The people elected you and we did not hire you. Please do not involve yourselves in disputes, as some of you I have seen are involved.
This causes a delay in development. You are a legislator of our country; that is all. You have a mission to accomplish in five years time.

But everything will come to light in the coming election, 2018. Add value to the country’s economy and development.
Mr Editor, please allow me to close by using this words: citizens are taxpayers, they must not be mistreated but must be protected and respected too.
